Not what I expected
PREVIOUS REVIEW: I love this!! Lots of beautiful, serene colors...not that bold but very nice!! My favorite colors are the guava meringue (shimmery pale pink/peach) and key lime (this gorgeous olive-like green).UPDATE:I would NOT repurchase this item! If you are a beginner, and bought this set to try out watercolors and just have fun, the quality is expected! But for professionals, this set is horrendous, especially for the price! They were beautiful when still wet, but as soon as they dried, they turned very chalky and had this weird texture! While I like the color scheme, I do not like their marketing this and the other prima sets as professional. The other cons are the the lack of light fast info, how opaque/chalky this set can be, lack of clean mixes (very muddy), etc. This set is definitely not lightfast as they faded very quickly after just a little amount of time and they are taking forever to use. I honestly never reach for them as they are not good for my confidence as an artist! Again, if I were a beginner or expert, I would NOT buy these, even on sale (and I am always up for buying stuff on sales). They are just terrible quality, and even children would be better off using something else. As an artist, I have had to use cheap supplies to get the job done, and have never minded, but this set has turned me off cheap watercolor as a whole. To be honest, this set is just NOT acceptable as the market on watercolor is growing everyday, with new, cheap sets gaining fame on Amazon and Youtube. And it is priced way too high for such a small set of watercolors with so many cons to it. Therefore, if I was on a budget and needed to get a good set of watercolor, (as a beginner) I would try Dugato watercolor (pigmented, vibrant, transparent, flow well, mix well), or Emooqi watercolor (48 set that are gorgeous, good color selection, mix okay with the primary colors, transparent, flow well) or Van gogh watercolor. If I was trying to expand my watercolor selection from beginner to mid-range/advanced, I would try the white nights (pretty affordable for the price, wide pans that have a lot of paint, good quality, transparent/semiopaque, granulates nicely) or a small set of Daniel Smith (which are amazing quality), Sennelier, or Rembrandt on sale. This review applies to ALL of the watercolor palettes marketed by Prima. for a while, they were a craze on youtube and Instagram, but it has died down a lot and after trying out these sets on my own money, I completely understand why. While the color selection and marketing is pretty, they are not good quality and for the price they are sold on, this is unacceptable for any consumer, beginner or advanced! Even if you are aiming to buy the watercolor palette, discard the paints and re-use the tins, it is NOT worth it, as the tins are a bit odd and mine have gotten damaged after a couple falls.Out of all 3 sets that I purchased (Essence, odyssey, and decadent pies), Decadent Pies is the best, though that is not saying much with the quality presented. Instead of buying a small set of watercolors that cannot be mixed into more colors or used on professional projects, I would buy another professional watercolor set instead! Especially because the price is around $30, which is absolutely ridiculous! The Emooqi set I suggested are only around 20 dollars, and so are the dugato on sale (they used to be cheaper before covid). Even the white nights are only 20 dollars more and so are the 48 paul rubens set on sale. All of these other options offer more colors, cleaner mixes (no muddiness), transparency, no weird texture, etc. Do yourself a favor, and just browse more before buying!

Worth every penny.
The media could not be loaded. First and foremost, I am not a watercolor expert nor is this medium the one I am most knowledgeable about but I do love it and have been watercoloring for over two years. I bought these because I don't have a travel set and was tired of buying the same colors over and over again. What I like about Prima is that each of their sets has a different theme and so the colors are not duplicated in other sets. The Decadent Pies was the set with the most colors I don't already own in my collection and have a very muted and almost 'dull' selection, which is exactly what I wanted since my color choice tends to be very soft and pleasing than bright and obnoxiously out there. The set came in a white box as shown abInside of the black tin the colors are all wrapped up and there is a card inside for you to swatch out your colors. I don't recommend using it since it's not watercolor paper and so it will change how the colors look but I swatched the colors out on the card provided as well as in my canson xl watercolor sketchbook, 140-pound paper. I used a Grumbacher number six round brush to swatch out the colors, just for reference. The pans feels loose inside of the tin, and they do slip out if the tin is shaken while closed. You can honestly fit seven in each row and use the empty space for another seven or for a pocket sized brush. The texture of the paint inside of the pans is actually pretty rough, none of them have the smooth or dewy look that other watercolor pans might have. The first four colors(25, 26, 27, and 28) are very dry and suck up water as if they were California while the other retain the moisture and stay wet for a much longer period of time.On my swatches, I drew a black line with a waterproof marker(Faber Castell Pitt Artist pen Black 199), this was to test out the transparency of the colors. On paper meant for watercolor, the paints were a lot more transparent but the four metal like shades showed a lot more glitter and luster. All of the shades actually swatched out very beautifully, the last three were my favorite and in the video shown where I swatched them, number 34 and 35 blend together naturally and it was very smooth. Since there aren't any bright colors besides number 36, it was hard to come out with any stark colors and the mixing wasn't quite the same but I didn't expect much since these colors are a different tone and it would be impossible to make a bright purple with the red provided. That didn't bother me if I wanted to mix bright colors I would have bought Tropicals of the original set.I truly do love these colors, and for the cheap price, they're worth every single penny and then some more.As for lightfastness, I honestly have no idea but I will leave both the swatches out in the fun for a few days and will edit my review with the outcome. All in all, I highly recommend this set. The tin is solid, the colors are lovely and pigmented, and for the price, you can't beat them.

Very nice for the price and then some
I got this set a few months ago and use them fairly consistently. The colors remind me of the fall, my favorite season, and I fell in love at first sight. After getting under the first couple of layers of the paint, almost everything was smooth sailing. As seen in the first picture, Earl Grey looks very dry compared to Pistachio Cream and this was the only paint in my set to look like this. While looking at other reviews, this problem is inconsistent. In the second picture, Earl Frey gives color pay off but after 10+ layers. Another color with payoff problem was Guava Meringue which also took 10+ layers. I've tried everything from letting the paint soak for a while to scraping the color off and that's the only time the color is darker than the water. Other colors I had initial problems with were Pumpkin, Keylime, Blueberry, and Blackberry which were gritty in its first few years but stopped fairly quickly once I used the colors more. I was kind of upset that Blackberry wasn't black at first but I've come to love the dull blue and it's now my favorite color in the set. The best experience I've had was with Pistachio Cream (which is not green for some reason). When I first started using it, I thought it was just a dull gold but using more pigment than water makes it an incredible opaque gold. After using Pistachio Cream so often, the dull gold has now become stronger so now it comes out as more opaque but not unworkibly so. The pigments left fairly easily if you can catch it fast enough but the pigments are very pigmented and opaque once layered enough. I can't recommend these enough and I would buy Earl Grey and Guava Meringue separately so I could use them properly.

So happy!
I'm not an expert painter, I paint for fun. I could have cried when I started using these paints. They are absolutely beautiful. The pigment is so strong and they glide across the paper. It is such a treat to use such lovely watercolour paints.

Inattendu

Perfetti
Acquarelli di ottima fattura. Scatola carina e pratica. Le codette sono arrivate in perfetto stato. La pigmentazione è vibrante, pur rimanendo piacevolmente trasparenti. Rapporto qualità prezzo ottimale.
